Durrës and Spille
Located 30 minutes from Tirana on the Adriatic coastline peninsula, the city of Durrës is the country's largest seaside resort. Stretching over 10 km, its beach (known as Plazhi i Durrësit in Albanian) is highly popular with travelers drawn to the beauty of its coast and lively atmosphere. Lined with luxury hotels and restaurants, this tourist destination offers leisure activities, such as water sports or pedal boats.
Further south, a few kilometers below Durrës, you'll find Spille beach with its comfortable loungers, available to you in exchange for a few lekë. If you're worried about the heat, don't be concerned—the pine grove bordering the beach will provide the shade you need for a perfect afternoon in the sun! Prefer to stay active rather than laze by the sea? You can enjoy beach volleyball areas and share quality time with friends or family.
Gjipe
Considered one of Albania's most beautiful beaches, Gjipe Beach makes you earn the privilege of visiting. Indeed, to access this natural gem and swim in its crystalline waters, you'll first need to walk for about an hour. Under the sun, this short hike can be taxing, but once you arrive, you'll forget your effort as you discover the bay's beauty. Here's a tip: it's also accessible by boat…
The beach is also a perfect starting point for hikes through Gjipe canyon… and its little coves. Boasting exceptional flora and fauna, the site shelters lush vegetation and protected wildlife. Several species of dolphins have been identified in its coastal waters!
Ksamil
Positioned just across from the Greek island of Corfu, the seaside resort of Ksamil is known for its crystal-clear waters and white sand. Seduced by this postcard-perfect setting, many travelers lay their towels on loungers or venture out on pedal boats to admire the coastline.
Surrounded by three small islands, Ksamil is the perfect spot for snorkeling. You can reach these little islets by swimming, jet-ski, or paddleboat. Ksamil is part of Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
A seaside stay to discover Albania's beaches
Dhërmi Beach
The village of Dhërmi sits 165 km south of Spille. Considered the «pearl of the coastline» thanks to its turquoise-blue waters and pebble beaches, Dhërmi offers a more authentic second face. A very popular seaside resort (prized for its waterfront bars), this small town of fewer than 2,000 residents is also a destination renowned for its wild stretches and hiking trails.
Perched high at 200 meters altitude, the village overlooks the coastline and offers magnificent panoramic views. After some beach relaxation, treat yourself to a scuba diving excursion or a stroll through Llogara National Park. Located 20 minutes from Dhërmi, this site ranks among the Wonders of Albania! Its mountains, rising above 2,000 meters, will leave you with unforgettable memories between sky and sea.
Bay of Grama
The Bay of Grama lies in southeastern Albania. Recognized as a protected zone due to its rock inscriptions, it is both an archaeological and tourist site, captivating visitors for its historical heritage and blue waters as much as its gastronomy! Indeed, its waterfront restaurants are particularly appreciated for their cuisine and fresh fish. This magnificent gulf is accessible on foot or by boat.
Grama Bay is also close to Sazan Island. This 10 km² islet is a former military base, abandoned after the fall of communism. Long deserted, what is now called the «Bunker Island» houses numerous bunkers overtaken by unruly wildlife. Still relatively untouched by tourism, this place offers a genuine sense of isolation, surrounded by wild nature!
